MY LIFE LIMERICK

Exercise: Write a limerick about yourself. Try to make it specific and real to your history or qualities. A limerick is a humorous poem that is often vulgar, in five-line, mostly anapestic meter, with the rhyme scheme AABBA. The 1st, 2nd, and 5th lines rhyme, while the 3rd and 4th lines are short and share a separate verse.

Why: Specific poetic formats-haiku, sonnet, ode, etc.- put a set of limits on a writer, which often results in an imaginative, highly disciplined work of art. Having constraints and a particular structure in the making of a work of art is constructive for many artists. It frees up the mind to fill in the spaces which require inspired content, thereby causing an instance of creative reflection.

Enhances Creative Reflection which includes empathy, creative mindfulness, distant memory recall, and self-discovery.

Example:

There once was a runner named Dwight Who could speed even faster than light. He set out one day / In a relative way And returned on the previous night.

There was a young lady named Rose, Who had a large wart on her nose. When she had it removed, Her appearance improved, But her glasses slipped down to her toes.
