SCARY MOVIE PITCH

Exercise: You’re a Hollywood producer, and it’s your big shot to pitch a film idea that you believe will be the next great scary picture. But the Studio Executives are having a hard time understanding what exactly your Movie is. 1) Come up with a “This movie meets that movie” comparison to other films so people can understand it. 2) Then, write a short blurb (called a ‘logline’ in the entertainment industry) describing the film. 3) Lastly, think up a killer name for your Movie. Please be liberal with what scary means to you and your target audience.

Why: Einstein referred to this method of creative innovation as “Combinatory Play.” It is - when two previously existing ideas are put together in a new way. For the movie business, in particular, a lot of creative work involves combining or synthesizing pre-existing elements. By actively merging two separate subjects into the same space, you articulate a new identity. This new identity will encourage you to think of connecting links and plausible circumstances to express them, thereby testing your creative focus.

Enhances Creative Focus which includes deep thinking, focus, pattern recognition, and creative problem-solving.
