DESCRIBE THESE PEOPLE

Exercise: Anthropologists recognize naming as one of the chief methods for imposing order on perception. Just from their name, write a short paragraph describing each of these 3 people - where they’re from, attire, social style, job, interests, and feel free to draw a picture.

Why: Screenwriting teachers will tell you that the first major decision you make about a character - their name-defines them from the get-go. Somehow we become our names and our names become us. Developing a believable fictional character has our brain integrating memories and learned patterns with creative choice, which is at the heart of creative imagination.

Enhances Creative Imagination which includes divergent thinking, brainstorming, removing barriers, and combining ideas without rules or judgments.

Example:

CONSTANCE BLEDSOE

Pointy cat eye glasses, long hair tied into braids, wears pants too high up on waist, carries a bright pink leather handbag, watches only British sitcoms, reads books and magazines three inches away from her face.
