Exercise: Imagine creative metaphors for these concepts. Metaphors are potent shortcuts to instant and memorable understanding through comparison. A metaphor states that something is something else without using the word "like" or "as." They say this "is" that, "was" that or "are" that. It lets you transfer the qualities of one thing directly to another.

Why: Metaphors can evoke vivid images and allow us to "see" things from a new perspective. They are useful tools for creative problem-solving. Metaphors make your writing and speaking voice a lot more interesting, especially when they are poignant or funny, and using them is a unique challenge of your creative focus.
