Creative Awareness
SPORTY SOMMELIER
Exercise: You are a connoisseur of sports. Take each of the terms on the right, commonly used as adjectives and attributes for wine, and re-apply them to sports and athletes. Write a new, contextual sports definition for each and use in a sentence.
Why: Wine tasting culture is admired and ridiculed for its colorful and sometimes silly adjectives. But they have created a wonderfully expressive and compelling vernacular for an often subtle and complex phenomenon. By using this terminology to create your own lexicon for an entirely different subject - sports fandom - you are testing your creative awareness.
Enhances Creative Awareness which includes fine-tuning alertness to aesthetics, empathy, and drinking the world around you.
Example:
The wine term “Spicy” refers to how it smells like various spices, ranging from pepper to cinnamon, to 5 spice or cloves.
New Sports Use
SPICY
Unpredictable, innovative, out - of - the - box play. Can extend to on/off - field personality. “Shawn Hopkins isn’t the strongest 2nd baseman on paper, but he’s spicy, he gets his own team riled up, and gets in the head of opposing base runners.”
