ADVICE FROM MY 80-YEAR-OLD SELF
Exercise: If you want to work on your art, work on your life. Write a letter from yourself at 80 to your current self. Describe yourself at 80. What did you do after 50 that you enjoyed? What would you tell yourself? What interests would you urge yourself to pursue? What dreams would you encourage?
Why: People often think that creativity is based on fantasy. The truth is, creativity is about understanding who you are and getting past the fear. Self-expression requires a self to express. As we get precise about our life, we become more available to the moment. We become original because we become specific, an outcome this exercise fosters through creative reflection.
Enhances Creative Reflection which includes empathy, creative mindfulness, distant memory recall, and self-discovery.

What advice would your eighty year old self give to your current self?
Take the stairs every chance you get. When you get to be my age, taking the stairs is a privilege but you have to earn it by taking the stairs a lot throughout your life.
Only wear clothes that you love. You might die in what you’re wearing so you should want it to be fabulous.
Make friends of all ages so there will be lots of young people around you when you’re old. Don’t limit your friendships to people you have everything in common with or who are the same age as you. Diversify your portfolio.
